One of my favorite myths is the story of Persephone. She is a symbol of nature- an angel of the numinous. To me she represents the artistic journey from innocence- through the dark night of the soul- and the triumphant return to the light. It is the shamanic journey.
As I was painting this one I thought, "what if Matisse and Munch collaborated on a picture?"
